Community Programs & Events

We believe community engagement is vital to ensure our mission of protecting our citizens.  In order to build and improve the partnership between the community and the police department, we have focused on various initiatives in an effort to increase opportunities for positive interaction between department members and the community, including continuation of the bike patrol and neighborhood roll calls over the summer months, presenting the Citizen’s Police Academy and D.A.R.E. programs, and participation in various community events and presentations. Last year, Department members conducted community presentations on topics such as theft prevention, residential burglary prevention, crimes against seniors, Stranger Danger, police operations, and investigative analysis.  Police department personnel also attended many community events, frequently volunteering their time.

The Elmhurst Police Department feels that making contact with the community is essential since an officer in the squad is generally seen as an enforcer, but an officer stopping and talking to people promotes a feeling of goodwill and partnership between the department and the community.
